Our Goals and Philosophies

YMCA Union Park Day Camp strives to provide a high quality day camping experience for each camper who participates in our program. We believe that each camper is a valuable, creative person. Our goal is to provide each camper with the opportunity to develop to his or her fullest potential in an atmosphere of friendship, mutual respect, and caring. Our goal will be obtained through the emphasis of the YMCA's 4 core values of Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility. As our campers participate in activities they will develop self-confidence, independence, and respect for other's unique differences. With so many summertime activities available to youth and families, it is difficult for campers and their parents to choose between that which is merely a vacation and that which can enrich an entire lifetime. Few summer activities can be considered a substitute for a YMCA camp experience.

Health and Safety

Safety always comes first, with our commitment to a healthy camp experience. Our tradition of safe camping is enhanced through our staff training. All staff is certified in Community CPR and First Aid. In addition, all staff are trained in risk prevention in activities such as the pool, ropes course, caving, archery, black hole, and horses. YMCA Day Camp staff members participate in an extensive orientation prior to our camp season to assure the health and safety of our campers.

Progressive Camping

The individual abilities and needs of our campers are very important to the staff at YMCA Union Park Day Camp. Our goal is to develop programs that are suitable to those individual needs. With this in mind, each age group is given different activities suitable to their age and development.

Leadership and Staff

The key ingredient in any successful camping program is strong leadership. Our staff has been selected on the basis of good character, interest, dedication, and experience working with youth and adolescents. The Y Camp staff will emphasize the YMCA 4 Core Vales of Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility. "Campers First" is our motto. All staff members are aware of the unique needs of each child. With this in mind, our staff will strive to provide a week of FUN and EXCITEMENT for each camper. People make the difference, and YMCA Union Park Day Camp staff takes the responsibility to make a difference in the life of each of our campers.
